How to convert an archive

  1. Choose the archive or drop it on the page.
  2. Pick the new format and compression level.
  3. Select Convert and download the new archive.

One step, no temporary folder

Each file is read from the old archive and written straight into the new one, in your browser, without extracting anything to your computer first.

Pick the right target

ZIP opens everywhere and can get a password. 7z is smaller. tar.gz and tar.xz suit Linux, servers and source code.

Questions about Convert archive

Are my files uploaded?

No. The archive is built or opened by an engine that runs inside your browser tab. Your files stay on your device, and the page works without a connection after the first visit.

Can I add a password while converting?

Yes, when converting to zip: tick Add a password for AES-256 encryption.

Is anything lost?

Files, folders and dates are kept. Permissions, owners and comments of the old archive are not carried over.

Can I convert an encrypted archive?

Yes for password-protected zips: enter the password first. Encrypted RAR and 7z cannot be opened yet.
