How to zip files

Opens everywhere
ZIP is the format every computer and phone opens without extra software: Windows, macOS, Linux, iPhone and Android. Names with accents or non-Latin letters are stored as UTF-8, so they come out right on the other side.
Which compression to pick
Normal is the best balance. Best squeezes a little more out of text, documents and code but takes longer. Photos, videos and files that are already compressed barely shrink, so Store just packs them together, which is fastest.
Questions about Zip files
Are my files uploaded?
No. The archive is built or opened by an engine that runs inside your browser tab. Your files stay on your device, and the page works without a connection after the first visit.
Is there a size limit?
There is no limit set by us. Everything is held in your browser's memory while the zip is made, so very large jobs (over about 2 GB in total) can run out of memory, depending on your device.
Can I zip a whole folder?
Yes. Choose Folder, or drag a folder onto the page. Subfolders, including empty ones, are kept inside the zip.
Can I add a password?
Yes. Tick Add a password to encrypt the zip with AES-256, or use the Password-protect zip tool.
